Fatemeh Sadeghi Givi who is given a fellowship at the University of McGill, Montreal,Canada, is the daughter of the butcher Sadegh Khalkhali Givi known as the Notorious Hanging Judge of the ayatollah khomeini

Fatemeh Sadeghi’s father, Sadegh Khalkhali (27 July 1926–26 November 2003) ordered the execution of thousands of “counterrevolutionaries” in his dual role as lead prosecutor and chief Islamic Judge “ (1979–80) of the Islamic Revolutionary Courts and as head of the Iranian antinarcotics agency (from 1982).

As the head of of the Revolutionary Courts, his sham trials of many of Iran’s late Shah’s leading lieutenants were initially heard in classrooms. They sometimes lasted as little as one minute; executions on the school rooftops usually followed immediately.

Khalkhali also served as Islamic republic In Iran’s member of Parliament of Qum City for eight years, until 1991.

“Khalkhali is known to have been one of Khomeini’s circle of disciples as far back as 1955 and is reported to have reconstructed the former secret society of Islamic assassins known as the Fadayan-e Islam (1st Muslim Brotherhood group) after its suppression, but was not a well-known figure to the public prior to the Islamic Revolution.”

In his autobiography, which was published in 2000, Khalkhali said he had the support and blessing of the founding father of the revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and wrote: “ I killed over 500 criminals close to the royal family, hundreds of rebels of Kurdistan, Gonbad and Khuzestan regions, and many drug smugglers,’’ he wrote. ‘’I feel no regret or guilt over the executions. Yet I think I killed little. There were many more who deserved to be killed but I could not get my hands on them.’’

Khalkhali sentenced patriot Iranians to death in summary sham trials an acted as judge and prosecutor, without a jury or defense lawyers. In his six-month tenure, he executed people he labeled “enemies of the Islamic revolution and ethnic rebels”.
